Dear Host Family,

My name is Victoire, I am 18 years old, and I am a recent high school graduate from the United States. I have lived in America my entire life, and becoming an au pair is something I am really excited about because I have always wanted to experience another culture and see what everyday family life is like in another country.

I have three younger siblings who are 12, 6, and 3 years old, and I also regularly help take care of my cousins, who are 3 and 5. Because of this, caring for children has been a big part of my life for years. I also have childcare experience as my only professional work experience. I genuinely enjoy being around children, and I am comfortable helping with their everyday routines, keeping them entertained, and making sure they are safe and cared for.

I am also someone who enjoys being active. I have played soccer, wrestling, and volleyball at a competitive level and have won medals and competed in tournaments. I would love to share that passion with your children by playing sports, going outside, or simply finding fun activities to do together.

At home, I also cook most of my family’s meals, so cooking is something I really enjoy. I would be happy to share some of the food I grew up with while also learning how to cook and enjoy the foods that are part of your family’s culture. I love trying new foods, discovering new movies and shows, and learning about things that are different from what I am used to.

Outside of sports and family, I really enjoy writing and spending time discovering new stories and ideas. I am also very interested in languages. I have always wanted to learn new languages and study abroad, but I wasn’t able to do that while I was in school. Now that I have graduated, I see my gap year as an opportunity to finally experience something I have wanted to do for a long time.

What excites me most about being an au pair is not simply traveling to another country. I want to actually experience life there. I want to learn the language, understand the culture, try new things, and most importantly, become part of a family. I hope to build a genuine relationship with my host family and become someone the children can feel comfortable with and look forward to spending time with.

I would also love to share my own culture and experiences with your family. Growing up in America with African heritage has given me experiences and traditions that I would be happy to share, whether that is through food, stories, music, or everyday life.

I am excited about the possibility of meeting a family from another part of the world, learning from each other, and making memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I hope to become more independent, learn a new language, and experience a different culture while also being a responsible and caring part of your family.
