Hi! I’m Julie, I’m 23 years old and originally from New England in the U.S. I’m currently working as a journalist and writer, and I’ll be moving to Madrid because I’m really excited about spending more time in Spain, improving my Spanish and experiencing everyday life in a new country. I’d love the opportunity to become part of a host family and feel like I’m genuinely contributing to your family’s routine, rather than simply being a visitor.

I have more than six years of childcare experience and have worked with children of different ages. I also taught children’s swim lessons for several years, which taught me a lot about patience, communication and creating an environment where kids feel comfortable and confident. I’m CPR, First Aid and lifeguard certified, and I have experience taking responsibility for children and making sure they are safe, engaged and having fun. I’ve also volunteered teaching children to write, something I particularly enjoy because I love finding creative ways to make learning fun and helping kids build confidence.

Outside of childcare, writing and journalism are a huge part of my life. I studied English in college, with additional studies in business and international studies, and I’m now continuing my journalism education. I love reading, writing, exploring new places, learning about different cultures and meeting people from different backgrounds. I’m also very active and enjoy running, hiking, being outdoors and generally getting out and exploring.

What especially appeals to me about a host family experience is the chance to experience Spain in a much more personal way. I want to learn the language and culture through everyday life — sharing meals, helping with the children, exploring the neighborhood and becoming part of your family’s routine. I’m responsible, independent and easygoing, but I also really value being present and spending quality time with the people around me.
